Hostile Takeover

Since no one is writing anything I'm making this blog all about me. I can't imagine what I will write, but by golly, you WILL read it.

So I'm in the midst of planning for my ultra cool trip. It's getting rather distracting. I have a hard time paying attention to anything besides my trip. Of course equally distracting is my weekend coming up in Madison. Bewteen the Greek food and dancing (Mara promised) in Milwaukee on Friday and Romeo and Juliet in Spring Green Saturday, followed by Johnny Depp (yum! See the current Rolling Stone, pages 48-49, right Mara?) at night and then another trip to Spring Green on Sunday I'm going to have a very full weekend.

The only black mark on the weekend is that my cat will miss me, but I'll try to make up for it Monday, I promise.

One note on the world abroad. I keep running into people that say "aren't you glad you left Korea! Do you still have friends there, aren't they scared?" Yes, I still have friends there, but I seriously doubt any of them are scared. I wouldn't be if I were there. Why? Because the South Korens mostly don't care, and their apathy is contagious. It's a big issue, to be sure, but it amazes me how nervous we are a big sea away and how at ease the Koreans are, seperated only by a big fence (well, okay, so it's one of the most militarized boarder in the world, but whatever). I'm not denying that Kim Jong Il may be nuts, but I think we have proven that economic sanctions and threatening does very little. Not only does Kim Jong Il not seem to care much about people in his country starving, but America doesn't have the resources for a full invasion. We can threaten all we like, but short of an attack on America soil I don't see how Bush can enlist enough volunteers for two seperate occupations. In fact, we have been steadily decreasing our military presence in Korean in favor or Iraq. There's not an easy answer, but I think the efforts of South Korea to slowly open the boarder with North Korea for factories and tourism.

I'm getting off the soap box now.
